Father/Son Lego Night

A couple of weeks ago, Big Stephen and Little Stephen got to spend a couple of hours one evening playing with legos together.  Little Stephen insisted that our creations be put on the family blog.  (Maybe in his mind it's a little "equal time" for the article about the girls' new bikes.)

Last week I made an interesting observation about the difference between boys and girls when it comes to playing with legos.  When Stephen (the little OR the big one) plays with legos, its always about spaceships, cool bases, good guys/bad guys, police chases, guns, jails, etc.  When the girls play legos, their playing is remarkably different.  For instance, last week they informed me that the lego men were putting on a garage sale!

So, Stephen and I each made a space ship.  Little Stephen's came complete with a surfboard on one of the wings and an ice chest on the other wing, just in case the guys get hungry on their inter-galactic journeys.

Then we made a cool base together.  For Christmas we bought the kids a big tub of assorted used legos.  Apparently the previous owner was a boy, because all of the legos are from sets revolving around outer space, underwater diving, arctic exploration, etc.  We haven't found any garage sale equipment yet, but the girls are creative!

When I got out the camera, Gabby grabbed a car out of the lego box and insisted on having her picture taken too!  I couldn't resist.

  1. Timothy has been a real roll with lego's lately too. He likes for me to build something cool and then he will play with it for several days. Other times, he gets very creative himself(even though we don't have all the cool space pieces). So far, no garage sales.

  2. Legos are such great imaginary play toys. Our boys love them too. Sarah plays with them sometimes too, although I think it's more for someone to play with rather than a great interest in legos. Daniel and Andrew can play together for hours. Many times Caleb plays with them. Just this morning Caleb showed me what he built with legos and explained what everything was for and what it did.
Love the picture of Stephen with the space base. He sure is a handsome little guy. Then that picture of Gabby is adorable...the perfect way to end your post.
